Een persoonlijke kijk op taal en communicatie bij een menselijke baby

Mijn collega’s zullen op dit punt misschien met hun ogen rollen, maar ik wil graag van deze gelegenheid gebruikmaken om een artikel te schrijven voor Het Talige Brein om enkele van mijn observaties te delen over mijn jonge, terwijl hij opgroeit in zijn sociale, cognitieve en linguïstische menselijke erfgoed. Dit is een wonderlijk proces dat vol verrassingen zit, maar ik denk nu specifiek aan wat me heeft verbaasd als wetenschapper en als voormalig student linguïstische antropologie. Als wetenschapper die op zoek is naar verklaringen voor hoe taal door de hersenen wordt gecreëerd, zie ik taal als iets dat grotendeels intern is aan de hersenen.

A personal take on language and communication in a human infant

My colleagues might roll their eyes at this point, but I’d like to take this opportunity to write an article for Het Talige Brein to share some of the up-close observations I’ve made of my young son growing into his social, cognitive and linguistic human heritage. This has been a truly remarkable process that has been filled with surprises, but I am thinking now specifically about what has stunned me as a scientist and as a former student of linguistic anthropology. As a scientist looking for explanations of how language is created by the brain, I have thought about language as something that is largely internal to the brain.
